This work was created for the exhibition Mana Moana, Mana Wāhine at Raven Row Gallery in London and curated by the Inter*island collective . Inspired by their invitation prompt, this work explores what occurs when we cross borders and oceans. What knowledges are lost and gained on these journeys? It wonders about Taemā and Tilfaiga’s journey to receive the knowledge of tatau which on their return signals a shift in their own relationships. The work yearns to find dualities with their journey and our own crossings, between life and death, as immigrants or even dual timezones on ones iphone. It once again explores these ideas through the keyboard and its cross over as a site that holds crip time, the vā and marks of the malu.
